Cairo – Mubasher: Egyptian National Railways (ENR) on Tuesday signed a contract with Spanish train manufacturer Talgo to purchase six air-conditioned (AC) trains worth EUR 157 million ($176.1 million).
The first train will be delivered after 12 months and tried out for six months, Egypt’s minister of transport Kamel El-Wazir said in a statement on Tuesday.
The light-weight Talgo trains are manufactured from aluminium, resulting in lower energy consumption with an operating speed of 160 kilometres per hour, the minister added.
In September 2018, ENR signed a deal with the Russian-Hungarian Transmashholding Company to manufacture and supply 1,300 new passenger train vehicles.
