Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government invested EGP 1.3 billion in the neediest villages in the most populous Arab nation during fiscal year 2018/2019, deputy minister of planning Ahmed Kamaly said.
Such investments served about 2.5 million people in 158 villages in five governorates, Kamaly revealed in a statement on Tuesday.
Poorest governorates in Egypt were topped by Assiut, while Sohag came in the second place during FY17/18, he noted, adding that poverty rates are declining in the country.
The government plans to develop the neediest villages and raise awareness on population growth in a bid to combat poverty, Kamaly pointed out.
