Egypt launches 7 smart public bus lines with EGP 100m investments

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government inaugurated the sustainable transport project, launching seven new public bus lines connecting 6th of October City and Sheikh Zayed City with Cairo University metro station in Giza, according to a statement on Tuesday.

A protocol of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Housing’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation to launch new public bus lines, the housing minister Assem El-Gazzar said.

The initial phase of the project includes 44 24-passenger air-conditioned minibuses which will have free WiFi service and LEDs, El-Gazzar added.

Total investments of the project amounted to EGP 100 million, including EGP 18 million from NUCA, EGP 22 million from the Ministry of Environment, and EGP 60 million from Mwasalat Misr Company.
