Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell 5.9% month-on-month in January 2018 to 128.18 from 128.81 points a month earlier.
The decline was attributed to lower supply contracts for the production of electronics and beverages, data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed on Wednesday.
The index of food industries rose 7.2% month-on-month to 144.4 points last January versus 134.76 points due to higher production of wheat and sugar, in line with higher prices, the state-run agency said.
The index of non-ferrous metals dropped 32.5%, while the electronics index retreated 28.1% in January 2018.
Beverage industries index narrowed down to 63.45 points last January from 109.66 points on a monthly basis, as production lines of one of the maintenance firms had been suspended, as well as the weak demand for soft drinks in winter.
