Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell 8.1% month-on-month in December 2017 to 128.81 from 140.15 points, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Monday.
The CAPMAS attributed this decline to the decrease in production of food industries and maintenance work done by some firms.
Textile production index reached 95.68 points last December, compared to 80.16 points in November 2017, rising 19.4% month-on-month due to increased supplying contracts and new available production lines.
The index of metal products, excluding machines and equipment, soared 130.8% in December to 164.21 points, compared to 71.14 points in November.
The index of food industries fell 28.6% month-on-month to 134.76 points last December from 188.85 points.
Likewise, the index of materials and chemical products declined 23.5% to 134.7 points in December from 175.64 points in November.
The CAPMAS last announced that Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries went up 0.6% month-on-month in November 2017 to 137.37 points from 136.53 points in October.
