Egypt manufacturing index falls 8.6% in April - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell 8.65% month-on-month in April to 130.46 from 142.82 points last March.

The index of pharmaceuticals and medicines rose 19.5% month-on-month to 150.03 points last April, versus 125.54 points due to increased demand for these products, data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed on Monday.

The index of electronics and medical devices production surged 24.2% to 192.29 points in April from 154.83 points a month earlier.

On the other hand, the index of mineral industries dropped 43.9% to 79.21 points in last April, compared to 141.21 points in the month before due to lower demand, the state-run agency said.

Moreover, the chemical materials and products index fell 29.1% to 147.07 points in April from 207.30 points on a monthly basis, according to the CAPMAS.
