Egypt may incur EGP 2.25bn loss as all flights halted until end-March

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian prime minister Mostafa Madbouly announced the suspension of all flights at all Egyptian airports starting from Thursday, 19 March, until the end of March.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), he remarked during a press conference on Monday.

Madoubly further revealed that the aviation sector could incur losses of EGP 2.250 billion as a result of this decision.

All hotels and tourist facilities will be sanitised during the closure, he added.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Egypt reached 126, including two deaths and 26 recoveries.

The country’s strategic reserves of key commodities are enough for months, Madoubly stressed, noting that there is no need to stock up.
