Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s transport minister Hisham Arafat has discussed means of collaboration with a delegation from the US RailRunner N.A., Inc. in the field of transporting commodities by railways.
The transport ministry supports the commodity transport sector in a bid to achieve environmental and economic benefits, Arafat said in a statement on Wednesday.
The ministry aims at transmitting 25 million tonnes of commodities by railway annually by 2022, he noted.
RailRunner has presented an offer to the Egyptian government that combines between the cutting-edge technology, merits of railway and overland transmit.
The aforementioned technology will reduce transport cost and open fresh opportunities for marketing and promoting commodity services.
Both parties agreed on a timeline to launch this project this year, according to the statement.
