Egypt needs $28bn investments to generate energy – Report

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt needs $28 billion worth of investments to meet its energy requirements, said a new report by APICORP's research unit.

Such investments would raise Egypt's total generated electricity by 21 gigawatts to 56 gigawatts by 2020, the May report said, noting that the most populous Arab country had announced ambitious plans to invest around $43 billion in the energy sector on the medium term.

Egypt is currently experiencing financing problems due to retreating foreign currency reserves, which have fallen from $36 billion in early 2011 to $16.5 billion in April 2016.
