Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s total non-petroleum exports rose 9% year-on-year in the first seven months of 2017, according to data by the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory & Metallurgy Industries (ECBM).
The ECBM’s data showed that Egypt’s total non-petroleum exports amounted to $12.09 billion in the period between January and July 2017, versus $11.09 billion in the prior-year period.
Construction materials exports stood at $2.3 billion in the same seven-month period, compared to $2.6 billion in the corresponding period of 2016.
Total exports of chemical materials and fertilisers, food industries, agricultural crops, and engineering and electronic goods reached $2.39 billion, $1.66 billion, $1.53 billion, and $1.35 billion, respectively, according to the data.
The Egyptian minister of trade and industry, Tarek Kabil, said that trade between Egypt and the European Union (EU) has leaped during the first half of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.
The minister had previously stated that the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) is aiming to double Egypt's exports to $30 billion or $34 billion by 2020 from $18.5 billion last year.
