Egypt not in talks over IMF loans

by Waleed Abd-Elsalam

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government has not entered into any negotiation on financial aids or loans through International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Chris Jarvis IMF mission chief for Egypt.

The international fund does not mind lending Egypt a helping hand, if called for assistance, he confirmed.

The chief exclusively told Mubasher that IMF welcomes the latest measures adopted by the Central bank of Egypt, including pound devaluation and the application of a more flexible monetary policy, which will achieve positive impact on Egypt’s monetary reserve, imports, tourism and the flow of direct foreign investments.

Earlier, the Egyptian pound was devalued by 112 piasters against U.S dollar.
