Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has ordered the government to extend procedures to facilitate the process of tax dispute settlement and support businesses amid the economic disruption caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
The directives include unfreezing assets of those who failed to file an appeal on the due date upon the payment of 1% of the principal tax amount, the finance minister Mohamed Maait said in a statement on Tuesday.
Then, they will be allowed to file an appeal, Maait added.
Moreover, assets of tax defaulters will be unfrozen upon the payment of 5% of the due taxes instead of 10%. The remaining amount will be paid over a period not less than two years, he pointed out.
Maait urged tax defaulters whose assets are frozen or having tax disputes to apply for settlement before 30 June.
