Egypt opens Uber’s 1st Centre of Excellence in MENA

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s investment minister Sahar Nasr on Tuesday inaugurated Uber’s first Center of Excellence (CoE) in the MENA region in Cairo, with $20 million in investments over five years.

Egypt is one of Uber's fastest growing markets in the world, Uber’s vice chairman and general manager for Europe and MENA Peter Demetri commented.

The CoE will provide more than 700 direct jobs for Egyptians, Nasr said, stressing that Uber plans to expand its activities to include public transport in Egypt’s governorates.

On 19 September 2017, the minister had mentioned that president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi asked Uber’s CEO to launch public transport services in the country’s governorates.
