Cairo – Mubasher: The German ambassador to Cairo and chairman of Egypt’s Holding Co for Water & Wastewater (HCWW) have inaugurated the first Egyptian-German partnership day in the water sector.

Water desalination and wastewater treatment projects have recently become the sector’s main focus, HCWW chairman Mamdouh Raslan said.

The Egyptian government covers 97% of the citizens’ needs, while the remaining percentage represents the slums, Raslan indicated.

As for the wastewater sector, the government seeks to cover 60% of the people needs by 2022, he added.

“We seek partnership with Germany in a bid to boost water and wastewater projects, in addition to benefiting from their expertise in such field,” HCWW chairman said.

For his part, Germany’s ambassador to Cairo Julius Georg Luy said that his country is working with Egypt on a number of water and wastewater projects.

Luy stressed that resolving the Nile pollution crisis is more important than the new cars and mobile phones.
