Egypt plans to accelerate economic growth to 6% – Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s economy has recovered significantly in the recent period on the back of the economic reform programme, the country’s finance minister Mohamed Maait said.

The North African nation has achieved an economic growth exceeding 5.6% last year, with plans to accelerate growth to more than 6% in the coming period, Maait added in a statement on Sunday.

Egypt has also achieved the target primary surplus of 2% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and slashed budget deficit to 8.4% of the country's GDP, he noted.

Public debt also went down to 90% of the country’s GDP, he revealed during Euro-Mediterranean Investment Forum organised by Intesa Sanpaolo and the Italian Banking Insurance and Finance Federation (FeBAF).
