Egypt plans to launch EGP 175bn road projects

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government is planning to construct seven kilometres of roads with total investments of EGP 175 billion, Egypt's transport minister Kamel al-Wazir stated on Wednesday.

The government also formed a committee to evaluate road projects across governorates and estimated these projects at EGP 35.5 billion, local development minister Mahmoud Shaarawy said.

During the fiscal year 2018/2019, around 2,000 road projects were completed, with a total cost of EGP 5.2 billion, Shaarawy added.

The minister noted that another 2,000 projects will be launched in FY19/20, with a total cost of EGP 4.2 billion.

On Wednesday, the transport and local development ministries signed an agreement for pavement, upgrade, and maintenance of roads in 12 governorates with a total cost of EGP 2 billion.
