Egypt pound steadies in dollar sale auction

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s central kept the pound exchange rate unchanged at 7.73 per dollar in a public auction held Sunday.

The bank accepted bid for $39.3 million. It had offered $40 million.

In early December, the Central Bank of Egypt it repaid foreign investors in stocks and securities a total of $546 million, clearing a backlog that had built up amid a dollar shortage.

On 11 November, CBE took a surprising move and weakened the dollar against the local currency.
