Egypt private-sector constructions rise 21.8% - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: The construction and building activity in Egypt’s private sector rose to EGP 31.3 billion in 2014, up 21.8% from EGP 25.7 billion a year ago, according to state-run statistics body.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization And Statistics (CAPMAS) added that the rise was spurred by upgrading infrastructure especially in electricity and water sectors.

The total value of residential units reached EGP 7.808 billion in 2014, a rise of 12.2% year-on-year from EGP 6.957 billion.

Meanwhile, the value of industrial buildings fell by 12.6% to EGP 1.355 billion from EGP 1.550 billion. Education buildings value also dropped by 17.6% to EGP 215 million from EGP 261 million.

The value of water networks and plants built by the private sector rose by 84.1% to EGP 569 million from EGP 309 million. The value of electricity networks and plants also increased by 203.5% to EGP 1.658 billion from EGP 546 million.
