Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Finance said that public expenditure on health and education was increased by 20% and 14%, respectively, during the first half (H1) of the current fiscal year (FY) 2019/2020.
During the same period, the government increased spending on food subsidies by 3.3% and health insurance by 23.3%, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
This comes as part of social protection policies that included raising the minimum wage and social security pensions, with a total value of around EGP 65 billion to date.
Moreover, the finance ministry said that electricity subsidies amount to EGP 4 billion in this year’s budget.
