Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has received 506,200 tourists during October 2016, down from 909,000 in September 2015, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Western Europe was the second largest region sending tourists with 36% of total number of arriving tourists.
Germany came in the top with 38.8%, while the Middle East region accounted for 25.1% of total arrivals in October.
The number of tourists from Arab countries reached 153,600 during October 2016, rising 6.2% from 144,600 tourists in October 2015, according to a statement.
In 2015, Russia stopped its flights to Egypt after a Russian plane was destroyed by a terrorist act in Egypt in 31 October 2015, leaving 224 dead. Russian tourists represent 40% of total arrivals to Egypt.
The tourism sector represents 13% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Egypt, adding to being an important source of foreign currency.
