Egypt receives first two Innovia 300 monorail trains from Alstom

Cairo – Mubasher: Alstom has delivered the first two out of 70 Innovia 300 monorail trains for Cairo monorail.

The two trains were developed at the company's Derby factory in the UK and the propulsion systems application was led by Alstom’s site in Trapaga in Spain, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The delivery of the first eight fully automated cars is a major milestone in the Cairo monorail project, which includes two monorail lines, linking the New Administrative Capital and Sixth of October City with Greater Cairo.

In August 2019, an Alstom-led consortium comprised of Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors inked a EUR 2.7 billion deal to design, implement, operate, and maintain the two lines.

The first line will extend over 54 kilometres (km) between the New Administrative and East Cairo, while the second 42-km line connects between the Sixth of October City and Giza.

The two lines are scheduled to operate in 2023 and the Alstom-led consortium will provide operation and maintenance services for a period of 30 years.
