Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will reconsider its plan to cut unemployment rate by 1-1.5% to around 6.3% in 2020 in the light of the repercussions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday, citing the minister of manpower Mohamed Saafan as saying.
Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the North African nation slashed unemployment rate to unprecedented levels on the back of establishing major national projects, alongside supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Saafan noted.
During the fourth quarter of 2019, the country’s unemployment rate fell to 8% from 8.9% in Q4-18 and 13.2% in Q1-13.
