Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt has moved up a rank among car manufacturers, bringing it to the penultimate position in a list of 40 countries in 2016, according to a report by the Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.
The rise in rank was due to an increase in the manufacture of buses and vehicles by 5.4% to 25,300 units in one year, the report stated.
Production of private cars and sedans retreated by 8.9% to 10,930 units in 2016 compared to 12,000 units in 2015.
Egypt’s production of private and commercial vehicles rose by 0.6% to 36,230 cars.
China ranked first in terms of vehicle manufacturing, with Japan, Germany, the US, and South Korea coming in at second, third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively, while Ukraine ranked last, according to the report.
In July, the Egyptian Cabinet approved a draft law to deepen the vehicles and cars industry, increasing the ratio of national components to 60% within the next eight years, as well as boosting exports of these components.
The draft law was sent to Parliament in September for approval.
