Cairo – Mubasher: Empower for new and renewable Energy is looking to invest EGP 420 million this year to build waste-to-energy plants to generate electricity from agricultural and industrial waste.
The Egypt-based firm is the first in the local market to generate electricity from agricultural and industrial waste to sell it to the electricity ministry, local newspaper Al Shorouk reported, citing chairman Hatem El Gamal as saying.
Empower temporarily sells electricity to the ministry at EGP 1.03 per kilowatt until the law of selling energy from waste is issued, he added.
In May, the Cabinet approved a unified tariff to purchase energy generated from waste at EGP 1.40 per kilowatt. The tariff is still not approved by the parliament yet.
