Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) cancelled a wheat tender after receiving a single bid from the privately owned Egyptian grain importer Venus, according to a statement on Wednesday.
Suppliers' non-bidding came after the authority applied zero tolerance policy on ergot fungus in imported wheat.
Earlier, the agricultural ministry announced accepting wheat imports containing 0.05% of the fungus, which is the international standard set by the FAO.
Yet under this latest decision, the world's biggest wheat importer will only apply strict policies for buying zero-ergot grains, the statement revealed.
