Egypt’s Halan raises multi-million dollar funding round

Cairo – Mubasher: The Cairo-based Halan, the first motorcycle and tuk-tuk ride-hailing app in Egypt and Sudan, has raised a multi-million dollar funding round co-led by Singapore’s Battery Road Digital Holdings and Egypt’s Algebra Ventures.

The fastest growing app has introduced smart mass transportation in several untapped markets across many of the governorates in Egypt and Sudan, facilitating over 3 million rides, MAGiNNEt reported.

“I launched Halan to solve a real problem, to serve a real need in the market,” CEO and founder of Halan Mounir Nakhla said.

“While other people were looking at informal and rural communities as spaces full of challenges and poverty, my experience with micro-finance in underserved markets showed me how much wealth and opportunity there is,” he added.

Nakhla noted that the funding round will be used in expanding to more cities and countries, along with offering further services and building better technology.

Founded in 2017 by CEO Mounir Nakhla and CTO Ahmed Mohsen, Halan provides users in underserved communities with safe, convenient, and affordable transportation, while offering thousands of high-value jobs.

It is worth noting that the ride-hailing apps are recently expanding in the Egyptian market.

In the same vein, the Dubai-based Careem unveiled on Monday plans to launch its bus services in Cairo, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan with $100 million in investments.
