Egypt’s MCIT keen on helping startups achieve sustainable growth

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Amr Talaat, has met with a group of entrepreneurs working in the information technology and communications sector during the second edition of “Startup Day.”

The minister affirmed that enhancing technological innovation and creating a conducive environment for the growth of startups is one of the Ministry’s main priorities, according to a statement on Tuesday.

The Startup Day was organised online by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), through the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC).

Talaat noted that Egypt achieved promising results in this sector and maintained its first position in the Middle East and Africa region (MEA) in drawing the biggest number of startup investment deals during the first half (H1) of 2020.

In addition, the country also came in the second position in terms of the volume of investments in the region, he added.

The ministry’s initiatives include Future Work is Digital (FWD) that aims at training 100,000 young people in three specialisations: data science, digital marketing, and web development, as well as 500-500 initiative that aims at training 500 young people in data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and an initiative executed in cooperation with Huawei, for training 10,000 young people in different ICT sectors.
