Egypt’s Tourism Ministry signs protocol to develop ICT infrastructure

Cairo – Mubasher: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to develop the latter’s information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure.

The three-year protocol aims to contribute to achieving the transformation into a digital society, developing and improving tourism services, demonstrating the value of monuments and tourist attractions, and promoting them to enhance financial resources, as one of the key drivers of economic growth,” according to a statement on Wednesday.

The protocol was signed by the Vice Minister for Tourism, Ghada Shalaby, and the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure, Raafat Hindy.

Under the protocol, applications and e-portals will be developed and a project will be implemented for keeping record of and displaying antiquities within virtual tours in museums and archaeological sites in Egypt, using augmented reality (AR) techniques.
