Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s supergiant Zohr gas field is planned to add nearly one billion cubic feet (bcf) before the end of this year, petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla has said.
This will help achieve the North African nation's gas self-sufficiency objective the end of 2018, El-Molla added in a statement on Wednesday.
Zohr's gas production increased three times since it had come online last December with over 1 bcf of gas a day, the minister highlighted.
Development activities of Zohr’s remaining phases are currently being accelerated in accordance with the planned timeframe in a bid to reach the target production rate of 2.7 bcf of gas a day in 2019, according to the statement.
In December 2017, El-Molla said that pumping Zohr's gas output into Port Said treatment plant has started with an initial production capacity of 350 million cubic feet (mcf) a day.
