Egypt’s agriculture exports hit $1.99bn in 11M – AEC

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s agriculture sector exports have increased by 3.4% to $1.99 billion in the first 11 months of 2017 from $1.93 billion in the same period of 2016, according to the country’s Agriculture Export Council (AEC).

AEC’s exports make up 10% of the country’s total non-oil exports worth $20.28 billion, the council’s chairman Abdel Hamid El Demerdash told the Middle East News Agency (MENA).

A total of 10 countries account for 65% or around $1.3 billion of Egypt’s agriculture sector exports, the top official revealed, indicating that Russia imports around $290.5 million of Egypt’s agri products, followed by Saudi Arabia with $286.7 million.

The Netherlands comes in third with $143.4 million, followed by the UK and Ireland with a combined $128.6 million, and the UAE with $109.5 million.

Also ranking among the top 10 importers of Egypt’s agricultural products were Kuwait, Iraq, Germany, and Libya.

El Demerdash further noted that citrus fruit exports amounted to $523.23 million, while potatoes registered $270.4 million, followed by onions and garlic with a combined $215.5 million, while fruit exports amounted to $335 million, according to MENA.
