Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual headline inflation stabilised at 6.8% in January, compared to the same figure in December 2019, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Monday.
The consumer price index (CPI) grew by 0.8% month-on-month to 105.2 points in January, the state-run statistics body revealed.
The rise in inflation was attributed to the increased prices of meat and poultry by 5.3%, vegetables by 5%, bottled water, soft drinks, and juices by 0.6%, and healthcare services by 0.5%.
On the other hand, prices of fruits and other food products fell by 1.8% and 0.2%, respectively.
