Egypt’s bourse closes on negative note; equities shed EGP 5.2m

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) moved lower on Thursday, amid selling activity by foreign investors.

The benchmark index EGX30 lost 1.89% or 153.5 points to close at 7,979.25 points.

The small and medium caps index EGX70 inched down 0.29% to 356.56 points, while the broader index EGX100 slide 0.91% to close at 808.63 points.

The equal weighted index EGX50 went down 1.14% to close at 1,350.93 points.

The market witnessed 126.6 million shares changed hands worth EGP 403 million executed through 16,000 transactions.

The largest constitute of EGX30 CIB slipped 2.44% with trading value of more than EGP 67.7 million.

The market capitalization shed EGP 5.2 billion to close at EGP 412.7 billion.

The foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 52.5 million, while local and Arab investors were net buyers with EGP 3.5 million and EGP 49 million respectively.

Out of 163 stocks traded today, decliners outnumbered advancers by 97 to 20, while 46 stocks remained unchanged.
