Egypt’s bourse closes on negative note Wednesday

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed on negative note on Wednesday amid selling pressure by local and Arab investors.

The benchmark index EGX30 went down 0.70% or 88.23 points to 12,584.26 points.

The equal weighted index EGX50 slipped 0.52% to 1,895.10 points.

The small and medium caps index EGX70 lost 2.88% to 482.46 points, while on contrary the broader index EGX100 gained 1.57% to 1,176.03 points.

The market capitalization shed EGP 153 million reaching EGP 612.6 million.

Local and Arab investors ended as net sellers with EGP 39.8 million and EGP 18.3 million, while foreign investors ended as net buyers with EGP 58.4 million.

The market witnessed 250.8 million shares changed hands worth EGP 879.8 million.

The EGX30’s top performing constituents were Eastern Co, up 5.1%, Arab Cotton Ginning, up 2.0%, and Oriental Weavers, up 1.9%. Today’s worst performing stocks included Cairo Oils and Soap, down 5.0%, EFG Hermes, down 4.2%, and Madinet Nasr Housing, down 3.6%.
