Egypt’s c.bank to hold exceptional dollar auction

Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) will hold an exceptional dollar sale auction in the coming period to inject dollar liquidity needed to import commodities, according to a statement issued by the presidential office.

The statement came following a meeting between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the central bank’s newly appointed Governor Tarek Amer.

Amer was quoted as saying that the bank will inject more dollar liquidity in the market this month.

The central announced Tuesday the full payment of all foreign portfolio investors’ outstanding orders totalling $547.2 million. Thus, the central bank cleared all the pending backlog to date.
