Egypt’s c.bank to issue EGP 112.3bn T-bills, bonds in May

Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt is planning to issue treasury bills and bonds worth EGP112.25 billion during May 2016, up 44.8% year-on-year from EGP77.5 million, said the Ministry of Finance.

In April 2016, the bank of Egypt auctioned debt instruments at EGP89.5 billion compared to EGP76.25 billion in April 2015.

The government uses treasury bonds and bills to fund the state budget deficit that widened to EGP319 billion, or 9.9% of GDP, in the first half of 2016/17, compared to EGP251 billion, or 8.9% of GDP for the year-ago period.
