Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has recently notified e-commerce companies in the local market such as Souq.com, Jumia, and Olx, that they will be subject to the value-added tax (VAT).
Some companies have already responded to the authority's decision by adding the 14% tax on sales, a source told Enterprise.
The e-commerce firms are obliged to pay the tax by the end of each month, the source highlighted.
The finance ministry had set the tax framework for e-commerce within the amendments to the tax on income law, assistant finance minister Mohammed Abdel Sattar said.
In July, finance minister Mohamed Maait stated that the ministry was conducting a full-fledged study to impose taxes on the advertisements on Google, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as other online platforms in the Egyptian market.
