Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed, reviewed a report on the results of Egypt's COVID economic recovery index during the fourth quarter (Q4) of fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021.
The index advanced by three points to record 106 in the April-June period of 2021, compared to 103 in the same period in 2020, El-Saaed said in a statement on Thursday.
The country managed to overcome the negative repercussions of the pandemic as reflected in the improvement of major economic indicators.
The communications sector topped the recovery index, recording 131 points, followed by the Suez Canal index with 115 points, the public government sector with 111 points, the health sector with 111, and the education sector with 109.
The transport and storage sector recorded 107, while the banking and retail and wholesale sectors registered 106 points each.
The private consumption performance continued to improve thanks to the government's policies in supporting companies and individuals hit by the pandemic, in addition to the growth in remittances of Egyptians working abroad and reduced inflation pressures.
The government consumption recovery index stood at 116 points, while the private consumption recovery index amounted to 113 points.
