Egypt’s electricity ministry improves transmission, distribution networks with $4bn

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s electricity minister, Mohamed Shaker, announced that transmission and distribution networks including high-voltage substations as well as smart networks are being developed with investments of about $4 billion, according to a statement.

The country’s electricity sector moved from electricity deficit to surplus after raising output capacity by about 25.5 gigawatts (GW) during the last four years, the minister added.

The electricity ministry plans to shift to smart networks which contribute largely to improving energy efficiency, cutting carbon emissions, and reducing the investments required for establishing infrastructure for electricity networks, he noted.
