Egypt's exports grow 10%, imports fall 14% in 2017

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's non-oil exports grew 10% in 2017 to $22.42 billion from $20.41 billion in 2016, a new report by the Ministry of Trade and Industry showed on Friday.

Meanwhile, imports by the most populous Arab country fell 14% to $56.8 billion last year from $66.31 billion in the year before.

Import and export indices for 2017 have been positive, confirming the ministry's efforts over the past two years, commented ministry Tarek Kabil, highlighting the ministry's policies to confront random imports to ensure the quality of imported goods.

The ministry was also able to limit low-quality imports and offer a bigger opportunity for local products to compete in the market, according to the ministry's statement on Friday.
