Egypt’s exports of medical industries drop to $233m in H1-20

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s exports of drugs and medical industries fell by 12.7% year-on-year (YoY) to $233 million during the first half (H1) of 2020, compared to $267 million, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday.

In June, exports of drugs and medical industries witnessed a slight improvement to register $46 million, up from $45 million in June 2019, the Export Council of Medical Industries said in its monthly report. 

As for the first quarter (Q1) of the year, the country exported $123 million worth of drugs and medical industries, down by 10.2% YoY from $137 million.

Over the January-June period, exports of drugs fell by 23.3% YoY to $79 million from $103 million, while exports of medical supplies declined by 7.4% to $50 million from $54 million in H1-19.

Moreover, exports of cosmetics decreased by 4.6% to $104 million in H1-20 from $109 million in the year-ago period.
