Egypt’s exports rise to $29.3bn in 2018 – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s exports increased by 11.5% year-on-year to $29.3 billion in 2018, compared to $26.3 billion, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The North African nation’s non-oil exports grew by 9.3% to $24.6 billion last year from $22.5 billion in 2017, CAMPAS said in a report on Saturday.

Meanwhile, oil and electricity exports amounted to $4.7 billion in 2018, rising by 23.7% year-on-year from $.8 billion.

The report showed that fuel exports hiked by 40.3% to $6.7 billion last year, compared to $4.8 billion in 2017.

In addition, exports of crude oil went up by 2% to $2.13 billion in 2018 from $ 2.09 billion, while exports of ready-made garments increased by 8.2% to $1.6 billion from $1.5 billion in 2017. 

Italy was the top destination, acquiring 7% of Egypt’s exports, with $2.1 billion worth of exports in 2018, down by 6.5% from $2.2 billion a year earlier.

Turkey came in the second place with $2 billion worth of exports last year, compared to $1.9 billion in 2017, followed by the UAE with $2 billion in 2018, compared to $2.7 billion in the previous year.
