Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s food exports declined by 5% year-on-year (YoY) to register $1.4 billion during the first five months of 2020, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Sunday, citing official data.
The decrease in exports was attributed to the negative impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which hit global trade, the Food Export Council said.
Food exports represent 13.5% of Egypt’s total non-oil exports during the January-May period, ranking in the third place among the country’s top export sectors.
Arab countries were the largest importer of Egypt’s food products with a share of 54% or $781 million, followed by the European Union (EU) and non-Arab African countries with $209 million and $157 million, respectively.
