Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s food exports amounted to around $1.44 billion in the first half of 2018.
Arab countries made up the largest portion of the exports, accounting for 52% of total Egyptian food exports, valued at $753 million, the Egyptian Food Export Council said in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, food exports to the European Union (EU) made up 15% of total exports, valued at $213 million, followed by non-Arab African countries, making up 13% of exports at a value of $184 million.
Moreover, exports to the US, valued at $66 million, made up 4% of total exports, whereas the remaining countries made up 16% of total exports at a value of $229 million, according to the statement.
Saudi Arabia topped Egypt's convenience food importers during the six-month period ended June with $150 million, followed by Jordan and Libya with $75 million and $71 million, respectively.
Furthermore, the US and the UAE imported convenience food worth $66.1 million and $62 million, respectively.
Kenya was the largest importer of Egyptian convenience food among non-Arab African countries in H1-18 with $30 million, followed by Madagascar and Ethiopia with $29 million and $12 million, respectively.
