Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Food Export Council (FEC) on Sunday announced a 1% year-on-year increase in the sector’s exports during the first 10 months of 2018.
Exports recorded around $2.372 billion in the period between January and October, the FEC said in a statement.
Exports rose by 10% in October, reaching $246 million, as compared with the same month last year, the FEC indicated.
Almost 10 countries made up 48% of total Egyptian food industry exports during the 10-month period ended October, according to the statement.
Saudi Arabia is the largest importer of Egyptian processed food with imports valued at $243 million, followed by Libya with $170 million and Jordan with $123 million.
Meanwhile, the US came in the fourth spot with imports valued at $117 million, followed by Yemen, the UAE, and Iraq with imports valued at $112 million, $113 million, and $82 million, respectively.
Moreover, Morocco imported Egyptian processed food at a value of $70 million, while Germany’s and Kuwait’s imports stood at $63 million and $58 million, consecutively, the FEC highlighted.
Fruit and vegetables topped the main exports of Egypt’s food industries sector with $279 million, followed by fizzy drinks at a value of $264 million, cheese at a value of $220 million, and sugar at a value of $178 million.
