Egypt’s free zone exports hit over $1bn in February

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s free zone exports, including goods and services, recorded $1.09 billion (EGP 18.90 billion) in February.

Service exports soared 38% month-on-month in February, the investment and international cooperation minister Sahar Nasr stated on Friday.

The Nasr City Public Free Zone’s exports surged 84% to $143.7 million in February, compared to $77.9 million a month earlier.

The minister revealed that Egypt was planning to build 7 free zones in a group of governments aimed at attracting more investments.

The number of projects in the free zones reached 1,090 with $12.5 billion in capital, Nasr highlighted, pointing out that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the zones stood at $2.15 billion and cost of investment amounted to $26.2 billion.
