Egypt’s glass exports pass $300m in 11M

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s glass exports grew 38.7% year-on-year between January and November 2017 to $301 million from $217 million, new data showed Tuesday.

Ten countries accounted for 62.7% of Egypt’s glass exports, registering $188.8 million of the total sum during the 11-month period, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported, citing data by the Egyptian Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories & Metallurgy Industries (ECBM).

Turkey led the list of countries importing glass from Egypt with $42.8 million in the first 11 months of 2017, registering a 15% year-on-year increase from $37.1 million.

Last week, Egypt’s minister of trade and industry Tarek Kabil revealed that Egypt’s exports to Turkey had surged by 44% in the first 10 months of 2017, bringing the total value of commercial trade between the two countries to $3.4 billion.

Egypt’s glass exports to India jumped 115% by the end of November to $30.158 million from $14 million in the same period of 2016, according to the ECBM.

Meanwhile, glass exports to Spain rose 61% to $20 million in the first 11 months of 2017 from $12.4 million in the prior year period.

The ECBM’s report further noted that Egypt had exported glass to 110 countries, including 18 countries it had never exported products to before including Ghana, Mozambique, and Angola.
