Egypt’s gov’t ties up19 solar power plants in Benban

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian investment and international cooperation ministry said that 19 solar power plants in Benban Solar Park in the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan have been tied up to the national electricity grid with a total capacity of 930 megawatts.

The plants include 16 solar power plants that commenced the commercial operation with a total capacity of 780 megawatts and three plants that will begin trial operation and are expected to commercially operate in May, the ministry added in a statement.

Benban Solar Park is a solar power complex with a total production capacity of 1,465 megawatts set up in collaboration with 32 investors and is set to be fully operational this year, the ministry noted.

This came on the sidelines of a visit by Egyptian investment minister Sahar Nasr and the president of the World Bank Group David Malpass to Benban Solar Park.
