Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s hotel occupancy rates rose to between 60% and 100% in four cities ahead of the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament, scheduled to start on 21 June and end on 19 July, will be held in four cities; namely Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia.
Hotels in the four cities have witnessed unprecedented occupancy rates, head of communication committee at Egyptian Tourism Federation, Wahid Assem, told Mubasher.
In Cairo, hotels have experienced occupancy rates ranging between 70% and 80% with foreigners making up the majority of guests, followed by Arab tourists, Assem added.
During the first half of fiscal year 2018/2019, Egypt’s tourism revenues rose to $4.5 billion from $3.8 billion in the year-ago period, according to official data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
Hotels in Cairo are expected to witness occupancy rates of 100% by the beginning of July, he noted.
In addition, Ain Sokhna hotels account for only 60% of a total occupancy rate of 70% in Suez, he revealed.
Hotels in Ismailia have also witnessed an increase in occupancy rates as the city hosts a large number of fans who will attend the tournament.
Additionally, the coastal city of Alexandria has experienced a rise in hotel occupancy rates thanks to Arab and local guests.
