Cairo – Mubasher: The value of Egypt’s imports from the US reached EGP 33.5 billion in 2015, down 11.3% from EGP 37.8 billion in 2014, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Egypt has taken several measures in an attempt to reduce imports amid a sharp decline in its foreign reserves and the devaluation of the Egyptian pound against the dollar.

Grains topped the list of imported US products with a value of EGP 2.5 billion in 2015 down 56.7% from EGP 5.8 billion the year before, CAPMAS revealed in its statement.
On the other hand, total Egyptian exports to world countries declined 16.4% year-on-year to EGP 163.3 billion in 2015 from EGP 195.3 billion in 2014.
Ready-made clothes topped the list of Egyptian exports with EGP 5.1 billion in 2015, down 6.4% from EGP 5.4 billion the year before.
CAPMAS further revealed that US investments in Egypt plunged 85.9% in 2015 to EGP 13.2 million, from EGP 93.7 million in 2014.
