Egypt’s industrial production up 11.7% in Q1 - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s industrial production, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 11.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2017, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAPMAS) quarterly bulletin.

The value of public and private enterprises’ industrial production amounted to EGP 127.7 billion in Q1-17, up from EGP 114.3 billion in Q1-16, the CAPMAS highlighted.

Coal and petroleum products contribute 14.6% of the industrial production, followed by food industries and iron and steel manufacturing which represent 14.1% and 6.3% of total production.

The value of food industries surged 32.1% month-on-month to EGP 33.3 billion in Q1-17, compared to EGP 25.2 billion in Q4-16, the CAPMAS noted.

Meanwhile, the value of iron and steel manufacturing levelled up 37.7% month-on-month to EGP 14.3 billion in Q1-17 from EGP 10.8 billion in Q1-16. 

The CAPMAS had previously stated that Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell 2.9% month-on-month in September to 126.19 from 129.95 points.
